Katrien de Blauwer has mastered the art of the "Cut". The artist approaches image-making with a conceptual and radical sensibility,
lending her compositions a formal and universal power.
For Soeur, Katrien de Blauwer has exclusively developed a new series entitled CLOSER in three unique works. They reveal
with delicacy a desire for reconnection with Nature, a need for freedom, hope and optimism.
« I created these three works for SOEUR as the second year of lockdown was beginning. This terrible and unprecedented
period influenced my work enormously — one cannot deny it. As an artist, I am used to spending most of my
time alone in my studio in Antwerp, and yet when I look at these works again, I see in them something like an irrepressible desire to
get dressed and go out. As if to feel free once more. The woman depicted in these works evokes all those
who dream of elsewhere. They symbolise hope, optimism, and the need to return to nature. »
