Artist, writer and activist, David Wojnarowicz (1954–1992) was a key figure on the New York art scene. His work centred on sex, death, violence and the limits of language. At the height of the AIDS epidemic, Wojnarowicz began keeping audio journals, returning to a practice he had started in his youth. 'The Weight of the Earth' presents the transcripts of these tapes, documenting Wojnarowicz's turbulent attempts to make sense of his anxieties and passions, tracing his thoughts as they unfold in real time.
